Misrin M

It was an amazing experience I didn't expect it to be this good and so many different things to experience. So worth it. It was magical.

Everald L

Today was a fantastic experience I thought the whole set up and organisation of the event was great we loved it.

Clare B

An amazing immersive experience. We loved floating down the Nile, seeing the pyramids, finding Tutankhamen in the tomb just as Howard Carter did (VR Metaverse experience).

Lucy H

I came with an open mind and was really impressed how much you packed into the experience. I have been to other immersive exhibitions, and this has been the best. I liked all the different sections and particularly the VR goggles’ rooms. Will recommend to friends and family.

Tamsin N

Fantastic experience, I am always slightly worried an experience like this may look better in the advert than in real life but not this - I loved it and my 8-year-old loved it even more. A brilliant 2 hours.

Accessibility

How do I book a ticket for my Companion/PA?

Essential Companion tickets are intended for customers requiring additional support. This must be due to needs significant and in excess of what could be reasonably expected of family or friends already accompanying you.

Companions must be booked in advance during the booking process, when you purchase tickets for the exhibition.

To qualify for a Companion ticket, you will need to show one of the following forms of documentation upon arrival. Without this documentation we will be unable to honour the complimentary Companion/PA ticket.

Accepted forms of documentation include:

  • Middle or Higher rate DLA for care and/or mobility.
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) documentation.
  • Evidence of being severely sight impaired.
  • CredAbility Access Card with a “+1” category requirement.
  • A recognised Assistance Dog ID card.

Please note that the guest requiring assistance must have a valid entry ticket. Documentation may not automatically award Essential Companion tickets for children under 16, as children are always required to be under the direct supervision of a responsible adult in our venues.

If the visitor is a child, to obtain a free Companion or PA ticket, there must be at least one full-priced General Admission ticket in the group.

Can I book a companion ticket alongside a Pharoah Package Ticket? A Companion Standard Ticket is available alongside all our ticket types. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a Companion Pharoah Package Ticket due to the number of additional inclusions it has. Companions will be granted free admission on arrival (no ticket purchase is needed in advance), provided accepted forms of documentation are presented on the door (See FAQ: ‘How do I book a ticket for my Companion/PA?’ for more information).
Is there step free access to the venue? / Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

All levels of the NEC are accessible to wheelchair users, via lifts, and have wheelchair friendly toilet facilities. The Piazza and Atrium main entrances have automatic doors.

For more detailed information on accessible facilities at the venue, please visit the NEC website: Accessibility at the NEC.

Are wheelchairs available to rent?

We have a fleet of mobility equipment available to hire on a first come, first serve basis. These can be booked online in advance, normally 4-6 weeks before the event. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

Wheelchairs are available to hire for £5 for all visitors. The number of wheelchairs we have available is limited, so if you’ve got your own, please bring it with you.

Scooters are available for £20 per hire for all visitors.

All pre-bookings will be held until 1300hrs on the day they've been booked for, unless otherwise advised.

For any visitors who have not pre-booked equipment and arrive on the day, any remaining stock will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. As collection location varies from show to show, please check the collection point when making a booking.

Please note: Mobility equipment hire is only available during show open times and we only accept payment by card for any equipment hired.

Book accessibility equipment here: NEC Birmingham mobility booking.

Where are the accessible toilets?

Accessible toilets are available across the venue. Changing Places facilities are also available by Hall 20, on the Atrium side of site and by Hall 2, on the Piazza side of site (both of these are accessible with a radar key).

The Changing Places facilities provide more space for up to 2 carers — and extra features to meet additional needs, including height adjustable adult-sized changing benches and a hoist system.

For more details, visit Changing Places at: changing-places.org.

To download our Piazza/Atrium Map please visit our download section: NEC downloads.

Are service dogs allowed?

Yes, assistance dogs are welcome, including those from ADUK, accredited training companies, and owner-trained dogs. Proof of training is required. Please be aware that if the dog’s behaviour does not meet the required standards, entry may be denied.

According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, assistance dogs are highly trained to:

  • Stay with their owner and not wander freely.
  • Sit or lie quietly on the floor next to their owner.
  • Avoid fouling in public areas.
  • All assistance dogs must remain on a lead at all times.

Please be mindful that certain environments, where noise levels or attendance numbers are high, can be stressful or confusing for assistance dogs.

For the safety and wellbeing of your dog please make them visible to staff and other visitors at all times.

Are there any SEND sessions? Currently, there are no specific SEND sessions available. If you would like to know about quieter times to visit, please email accessibility@fkpscorpio.co.uk.
Is the exhibition accessible for deaf people? The exhibition is mostly visual, so it can be accessible for deaf people. We have a script available for the immersive room and VR — for more information please email accessibility@fkpscorpio.co.uk.
Is the exhibition accessible for blind people? Tutankhamun is a visual and auditory experience and has no audio guide/exhibition guide in large print at this time.
Is there a minimum age limit for the virtual reality head sets? We recommend the Metaverse and VR experience for children aged five and above. At their own discretion, we welcome parents to sit younger children on their laps while the child wears the glasses, if desired.
Can electric mobility scooters be used in the Metaverse Room?

Unfortunately, electric mobility scooters are not permitted inside the metaverse space. The experience is not designed to ensure the safety of such vehicles — neither for the person using it nor for the people around. The VR glasses were never developed to be used while operating this type of mobility aid within the experience.

Only a standard manual wheelchair, accompanied by a companion to assist, who can monitor the other audience members without participating in the experience, is allowed inside. We have a number of manual wheelchairs on standby should anyone using an electric mobility scooter wish to experience the Metaverse.

Visitors can continue to use the electric scooter elsewhere in the exhibition, and then switch to a manual wheelchair when entering the metaverse, switching back afterwards.
